Some of the most common professional negligence cases we see are claims against solicitors. These claims are varied because of the many different specialisms solicitors work in. These can include:
Wills and Probate
Family law and Divorce
Landlord and Tenant
These are some of the most common types of negligence claims against solicitors, but if yours isn’t listed here, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a claim.

How do I know I have a claim against a solicitor?
All solicitors have a duty of care to act as a reasonably competent solicitor would. Put simply you have a claim when a solicitor you engage does not act in this way and as a result you suffer a financial loss as a result.
It can be difficult to know whether a solicitor has been negligent or not if you’re not sure whether you have a professional negligence claim, we offer a free initial discussion about your circumstances, so call us now on 0117 926 4121 or make a free online enquiry.
You can read some examples of cases that our team have been involved in on our case studies page.
How long do I have to make a negligence claim?
You do have a limited amount of time to bring a claim against a solicitor for negligence. These time limits are strictly outlined in the law and their legal name is a ‘limitation period’. You have six years to make a claim against your solicitor generally commencing on the date you incur financial loss but there are exceptions if during this 6 year period you were unaware you could bring a claim.
The interpretation of limitation periods is complex and the consequences of delaying can be serious so if you think you may have a claim please call us on 0117 926 4121 for your free initial discussion or make a free enquiry online.
How much is my professional negligence claim worth?
It is difficult for us to tell you how much your claim is worth until we’ve reviewed your circumstances, the evidence and advised you fully, but the law is aimed at awarding compensation which puts you back in the financial position you would have been in if the negligence had not happened.
We’ve dealt with claims in excess of a million pounds so you can be sure that we’ll work to achieve the very best result for you.
How can I fund a claim?
There are a number of ways to fund a claim against your former solicitors. We can discuss all of these with you in detail when you contact us and in some cases we offer the option of a ‘no win no fee’ agreement also known as a CFA or conditional fee agreement.
Remember, it won’t cost you anything to find out whether you have a claim and how you can pay for it. You can find out more about this in our Guide to Funding Litigation.
How long will my case take?
Each and every case we see is different. That means it’s hard to give you an idea of how long your claim might take. It really depends on the size of your claim and the complexity of the issues in your case. But the vast majority of cases settle before a trial and this would reduce the length of your claim.
We will give you an idea of how long it may take once we’ve looked at your claim in detail and we’ll obviously keep you informed and up to date throughout the whole process.
You can read more about the claims process here.
